Alright guys we are coming into the toughest part of the challenge. You body is getting off the sugar and is likely craving the crap you have been throwing in it. Stay strong, I promise that this feeling goes away in a few days as your body adjusts to eating as you were meant to.
Couple of answers to questions that are being asked. Yes you can have chicken stock. You can have any fruit you like. You are allowed to have natural, no sugar added almond butter. You are not allowed peanuts.
If you are hungry, eat food. Especially in the beginning. Don't allow yourself to go too hungry as mentally it will be really hard to keep after it. You will gradually start to eat less as you get used to this type of food.
Great posts and please continue to keep this up. Its important and it helps. Going to eat some more before bed. Good night kids.

Try unsweetened sunbutter. Made with sunflower seeds, it's actually quite good. :)
Someone needs to help me find breakfast options! I am sick of eggs!!

nice work on those who have switched to black coffee. whats the expression - 'once you go black, you'll never go back' - wait... that saying is about coffee isnt it?
The transition to black coffee hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be.
What's the consensus on almond milk?
Lauren
Annie, try some berries, chopped nuts and refrigerated (cold)coconut milk.
Lauren yes I believe you can have almond milk.
Breakfast
Turkey Sausage, banana, handful of trail mix
Breakfast 2: frozen berries and Vega mix.
For breaky Anns, i had organic turkey grillers (you get the at wholefoods) and either eat them plain or grill them with some tomates or a piece of fruit..
Its good !

Great stuff in this blog - also a great paleo "cereal" option down the blog a bit.

Handful of nuts and seeds-raw cashews, raw walnuts and sunflower seeds
Lunch: Fruit--grapes, blueberries and strawberries

Took all minerals and vitamins. I hope these don't have gluten in them? Probably need to check that! Any recommendations on gluten free vitamins and minerals?
Weird day for eating times because I was on the ferry back to Van and want to go to the 4:30pm class and I am running out of time. I feel like I am not eating enough protein when I write it down. So maybe after class I will go get the vega mix Chris uses? I am a picky eater and don't really like eating lots of meat to get my protein.
Suggestions?
All in all I feel great.
Amanda,
The stuff Chris is using isn't really part of the Whole30 challenge. We should be avoiding the powders. They're typically filled with sugars or substitutes. And whey is derived from casein - which creates a HUGE insulin spike.
Your protein should come from foods that had parents, ideally.
And in order to maintain the muscle mass you've already got just make sure you're getting .7g of protein per pound of lean muscle mass. For the guys still wanting to see gains in the gym, try to keep it closer to 1g per pound.
Hope that helps.
Thanks that helps.
Breakfast 3:
3 eggs, 1 egg white, salmon, spinach and tomato.
Lunch 1:
roast beef, 1/2 avacado, squash soup w/t apples.
feeling pretty good right now. actually. Sugar cravings are going away which is nice.
First day without eggs and almonds, i feel really good, i had a lot energy this afternoon, but tonight I went grocery shopping and i had to get out of there fast.If i didnt make this deal with myself 3days ago i would forsure have put back some chocolate tonight, was struggling abit with it,instead im drinking jasmine tea.
Breakfast7am- 1 turkey griller/ 1 nectarine, 1 black coffee/ handful walnuts
worked out
Snack- Vega shake, spinach/greens/strawberries/ fishoil
Lunch- 3oz chicken/ yams/walnuts
snack-larabar (cashew)
Dinner-1/2grilled chicken/1/2 grilled steak salad with salsa/gaucomole/ few blueberries
jasmine tea.
(noticed i got really full after a few bites, but did finish it)
Tanya what do you think about the vega shakes? and larabars? Im only having larabars if desperate, but i love my vega shakes just onescoop, instead of a multi vitamin.I notice it has xanthan gum and stevia leaf extract in it on top of all the vit/min. is this not good ? I realize its not the whole30 but paleo? or maybe just clean eatting?
I made it through another day:)
rest day tomorrow, see you Friday 430!
Robyn
Another weird day for me. Spent 6 hours driving to Edmonton & back (from Calgary), which messed up my schedule, and eating on the road is tough. Too much fruit, really need to focus on more protein & veggies. Took every ounce of my willpower not to order timbits when I got my black coffee :)
1: 2 eggs/bacon/fruit
2: deli turkey/berries
3: Jugo Juice (no sorbet/yogurt)
4: apple/almonds
5: lara bar
6: chicken/shrimp/greek salad w/out feta
7: banana/black coffee
Now off to the tiny hotel gym to get a workout in!
P.s-- Im starting to get a headache now, I dont remember the last time I had one.
Robyn
Wow Jennie, good job girl, none of us should be complaining when were at home making meals.
Eggs/chicken/raspberry/orange/blackberries
Grilled salmon/steamed veggies
biltong/apple
steak/kafka/chiken skewers/pickled beets/tomoatoes
Lots of nuts. Had a rough workout, but may be due to the 4 hours sleep... May inevitably opt to postpone this till after the games. You'll know if I post Ice cream and apple pie tomorrow...
Dinner:
Salmon with lemon, yam and sweet potatoes mashed, with a green salad with peppers, cherry tomatoes, spinach, greens, walnuts, sunflower seeds, peppers and cucumber with fresh squeezed lemon as the dressing
I was starving after the gym, I went to whole foods to try and find the organic turkey grillers...no luck.
I felt great in the workout today. Now I am exhausted and craving popcorn =)
Meal 1: 4 eggs, 2 tbsp coconut milk
7tsp fish oil
15000 IU vitamin D
Meal 2: shrimp, lettuce, veggies, evoo, balsamic vinegar
Meal 3: steak, grilled asparagus with evoo, strawberries, herbal tea
7tsp fish oil
tomorrow is going to be challenging, I've got an industry event right after work - wine & nibblies... trouble
Scott- the pickled beets are a no no - sorry. FULL of sugar. As is the biltong.
Robyn - take a look at the ingredients. If there's anything in there that's a grain, dairy, sugar, or soy - it's pretty much off the program.
Not sure if I put this down in last post or not.
Snack:
1 turkey sausage
apple
trail mix
Dinner:
chicken w/t fresh made gaucamole
Baked Yam fries
asparagus wrapped in prachuto (sp?)
Snack:
Hunter biltong
strawberries
almond butter
Snack: Handful of nuts & seeds, walnuts ans sunflower seeds
pretty bad today...had to go grocery shopping and salivated all through the aisles...
B: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 slices of ham
L: Bacon and tomatoes wrapped in lettuce - a true BLT!
D: Salmon cutlet, baby spinach, 2 hard boiled eggs
Snacks: baby carrots, almonds, berries
snack- turkey sausage
crosstfit
snack- roast chicken
dinner- bbq chick, brocoli, baked yam fries (that recipe with the cinnamon, paprika and cayan's pretty good)
banana with almond butter my version of desert
cashews, grapes
Oh - and go easy on the larabars. From the Whole30 blog: "In general, careful with the fruit. Use dried fruit and Larabars in serious moderation, and only if it doesn’t send you running for the nearest candy dish."
Wow! After fealing weak and dizzy at the gym and barely being able to link 10 wall balls I am thinking I am falling off the wagon!
But we'll see, dinner was good and filled me up, I am just not sold on how this will benefit my performance since I felt hungry and tired pretty much all day.
Breakfast:
2 egg white+ 1 egg+ 1 slice of canadian bacon w 1 banana w sunbutter
Snack:
Turkey slice w grapes
Lunch:
Left overs stir-fried brussel sprouts w turquey sausage
Some blackberries
Snack:
Larabar + protein shake
Snack #2:
nectarine
Dinner:
Roast chicken on a salad with all kinds of veggies w lemon juice and olive oil dressing.
Handful of nuts.
HOPE...I have some of these symptoms and it sounds like other people are experiencing this too.
Thought this might be helpful as I can't sleep because I have a huge headache. Always comes at night.
Sugar Detox Side-Effects:
Physical Cravings
Most physical cravings for sugar will usually subside within three to four weeks after removing it completely from your diet. You may experience lightheadedness, headaches or a lack of energy during the first week or two of the diet. The physical cravings will be easier to overcome as your body removes the toxins.
Emotional Reactions
You may experience mood disorders while your body undergoes the detoxification process. Sugar is an addictive substance and produces highs in the body when the blood glucose levels are elevated. Many become addicted to this high and the temporary energy it provides and will find it difficult to avoid using sugar as a crutch to better their mood. Many sugar addicts have an emotional link to eating foods high in sugar, so in addition to losing a physical addiction they will also need to deal with the underlying emotional conditions beneath the problem.
Skin Irritations
The body's largest eliminatory organ is the skin. You may experience rashes, itching, pimples or other skin irritations during the first few days of eliminating sugar from your diet. Drinking plenty of fresh water will help your body to detox quickly. A mixture of bentonite clay and aloe vera may help soothe skin eruptions. Generally, these types of irritations are usually short-lived.
