WE DID IT!!!
Day 30, congrats to everyone!!! I can't believe that it's been 30 days already, it went by really fast for me.
Post your thoughts:
1. how do you feel?
2. have you noticed any changes (weight, energy, gym performance, anything else?!?!)
3. what is your plan now?
4. what are you going to eat tomorrow?? :)

I feel great, am planning to keep eating this way from now on. Of course I will let myself indulge on special occasions etc, but I am not going to plan a "cheat" every day or week or whatever...
I am also going to focus on less fruit, less almonds, more veggies :)
I have lost about 6 pounds, and my goal is another 10-15, so I need to keep going!! Bridal Bootcamp is still on...
My headaches have subsided significantly, IT band pain is gone, skin feels great, it's way easier to get up in the morning, and I feel more lean, less bloated than before. Overall many good things!!
Breakfast this morning will be another yam omelette, bacon & avocado & coffee.
Way to go Jenny that's awesome! Even though I'm not finished my 30 days yet I'm feeling pretty good. I'd like to keep it going well past the 30 because I really do notice a difference with not only results in the gym but my joints hurt way less often and I have more energy.
It'll be interesting to see whether or not I've lost weight but I can't check yet.
Breakfast this morning was paleo oatmeal from the mark's daily apple website and coffee. It's amazing what a difference a substantial amount of protein in the morning makes when I don't get to eat at work.
Annie and I had made a slight shift to a more Paleo way of eating after I read Paleo for Athletes. The biggest changes were breakfast and the elimination of any pre-made sauces, soup stocks and condiments (other than mustard). I really do rely on store bought sauces for variety in flavours.
I'm pretty sure that beans and dairy aren't an issue for me but overdosing on white flour or sugar might be. Didn't feel great after eating pizza last weekend. Something I'm going to try to keep track of.
One definite change will be breakfast. In the past it's been cereal, oatmeal or fruit for breakfast during the week and eggs and meat on the weekends. We had pancetta and eggs this morning with grapefruit. Meat and eggs will certainly be eaten more frequently although not every day. Instead of Annie and me splitting a batch of 12 pancakes on the weekend it will probably be just a couple each.
I also like the option of including small amounts of grains or beans in my meals. I'll make a chili with a few kidney beans (probably fewer than before) or put bread crumbs or oats in my burgers and meatloaf, flour in gravy or browning beef for stews etc. I don't have celiac disease so I don't think small amounts are worth fretting about since I think they greatly improve the dish. I'm not worried about dairy, especially cheese, yogurt and kefir but won't be doing the GOMAD ever (gallon-of-milk-a-day).
So in the end I think that there will be a subtle shift to more meat and less grains. We'll probably buy less bread and definitely less cereal which will also mean less milk. There will of course be treats.
B: eggs, turkey slices, grapefruit, pineapple, coffee
S: banana, almonds
L: spinach salad w/ walnuts, pecans, cucumber, peppers, mushrooms, apples, red onion, craisins, BBQ chicken
I'm with Jenny, I plan to continue eating this way, I feel great, energy is way up, body has leaned out, and after reading The Paleo Solution, the long term health benefits of eating like our Paleolithic ancestors is enormous! Now I'm not saying I won't cheat, special occasions will come up and I will indulge, but I won't be making a weekly cheat day a routine. This challenge has been a great success for me, thanks to Jenny and Annie for keeping up the blog, and I enjoyed reading everyones daily posts!
I am such an idiot!!!
Did fine at breakfast and snacking.
I had to go for lunch with my new boss today and promptly order a chicken burger, no bun, no mayo, cheese (and I had to send the first one back)sweet potato fries, black coffee. Boss looked at me funny but I got through and think I'm still hired.
I was dreading dinner as the options so so slim here. I ordered a steak, seasoned in salt and pepper only, steamed veggies. Specifically said no sugar, no dairy, no grains... Dinner arrives and although the steak was distractingly skinny and tough looking, it did appear to be what I ordered. Veggies looked steamed and free of bad stuff. So here I am thinking "I DID IT!"
...except when I finished eating I realized the steam veggies were green beans...F&%K! Forgot about that damn BEAN thing. DAY 30 to boot. Oh well. Lesson learned and I really enjoyed Paleo and will likely continue for the most part. I probably will reintroduce a couple servings of cereal grains/week (found something on-line by Cordain and he supported that most are not impacted by that dosage). For me it's to retain body mass.
Good job to everyone!!!
Scott!!! I wouldn't worry about it...you could have done much, much worse than a few beans :)
S: carrots, ham slices, almonds
L: big salad with salmon, tomato, cucumber, carrots, seeds, basil vinagrette
S: banana, lara bar
D: salad with grilled chicken, peppers, beets, carrots, avocado, strawberries
1. I feel great!
2. I lost 6-7 pounds, but 3 of those were Christmas pounds! I am down 4 lbs on my regular frame. I did hit a PR on Fran and it's not lost on me!
3. I certainly plan to keep on eating this way. I am pretty sure I don't have Celiac or any serious intolerance, but at the same time, how can I explain the fact that I am not bloated anymore and generally feel leaner and better. Scott and I were used to the discipline of the zone, but in many ways I found this easier, I love the baking and recipes I have discovered and look forward to trying more things.
4. I did buy myself a treat for tomorrow! I have a brand new tub of Moose track Ice cream calling my name! ;)
Like Jenny and Matt, I wouldn't plan my cheats, but if social occasions arise I will indulge. 80.20 or 90.10 seems reasonable to me.
Today day 30!
Breakfast:
eggs, turkey and avocado w black coffee and a fruit salad
Snack:
Almond and a fig.
Lunch:
Big chicken salad w red peppers, cucumber, lemon and evoo
And a fruit salad.
Dinner:
Meat sauce on top of a bed of spinach sauteed in garlic and evoo...Delish!
Snacking on brazil nuts and a couple of dates for something sweet.
We did it! Great work everyone! It has been great having everyone's support. I am sure glad I made it, much better experience than my first go at Paleo.
Day 30!! We did it!!! Not at all as tough as I thought it would be but I am a little disappointed as I have not seen the results I'd hope for: cleared up psoriasis/leaning out/increase in energy. Oh well, will definitely continue eating like this for the most part as I enjoy it & it eliminates the tendency to pick up the "bad" stuff. When the occasion arises, I certainly won't hesitate to indulge once in awhile. Definitely no planned cheats but Dine Out is this week!! :P
D last night: seared tuna on a bed of greens with jicama, beets and balsamic dressing
B: 2 poached egg whites w/guac, 1/2 sausage, prosciutto, fruit salad, coffee
on my commute (not at school today): almond milk latte
S: banana/berry smoothie, baby carrots
L (packed my own. I knew the food at the workshop would not be Paleo friendly!): spinach salad with beets, avocado, chicken breast, slivered almonds, chocolate banana loaf
I didn't touch the yogurt & baked goods sitting on the table all day! :)
post-WOD stuck in traffic: banana (it's all I had!), almonds
D: salmon patty, sweet potatoes, broccoli
Awesome job everyone!! Congrats on all your gains and losses!! :)
