Day 23

Wow time actually flies! I can't believe there's only a week left. What a different experience for me this time. I can't believe I was so grumpy about it and quit on day 5 last time!

Interesting to hear of everyone's experience. Keep posting your feelings/thoughts/meals. We all have different reasons for taking this on, but the sharing and each other has really helped me going.

Happy Tuesday!

Annie :)

Felt pretty good yesterday. I've been on a bit of a sleep rollercoaster. 10 hours of sleep Saturday night meant not so much sleep on Sunday night. May also have been feeling a carb rush after the Bento Box. Slept like a log last night.

Dinner yesterday was Lamb patties from Rio's and salad. Roasted some sweet potatoes for a shepherds pie tonight.

Breakfast today was eggs, mild Italian sausage, 1/2 apple and banana with coffee.

Sausages and veggies for lunch.

I'm going to need some snacks in there somewhere.

i have to admit i haven't exactly been doing strict paleo...i think paleo is great and helps me eat healthier and cut out junky food but when i go for longer runs or teach back to back spin classes i need a little more. i don't want to discourage everyone on the blog that is cheat free this month though! ive really enjoyed trying out new recipes and the cooking experience. 80% paleo. i don't know if i should keep posting if daily i am including non paleo foods?

B: my paleo pancakes-i really love them! you should try them or maybe im weird... i take egg whites, mash half a banana in, dash of cinnamon and vanilla and grill em like pancakes. sometimes top them with almond butter. and i had some cooked oats.

lunch 1: pretty much the same thing as breakfast.

lunch 2: turkey breast, brown rice, cut up carrots, cucumber, red pepper.

Dinner: huge salad, with chicken breast.

Bed time snack: egg whites and avocado.

awesome job everyone!! 6 more days! easy right?!?!

it really has been much easier that i thought it would be...being the newbie on the block, i was freaking out and wondering what the hell was left on the menu! Thanks to Annie T & Jenny for talking me into it--and through it! :)

B: egg/egg white scramble with spinach, 1/2 pork sausage, paleo muffin, blueberries, 1/2 grapefruit and coffee w/ splash of coconut milk

S: berry/banana smoothie with almond milk

L will be leftover beet & fennel salad with leftover chicken wrapped proscuitto, apple w/ cinnamon (maybe the other 1/2 of my grapefruit)

the first thing I'm having on day 31 is a Keg sized (9oz!) glass of Gewurtz!! I may also allow the odd skim milk latte from time to time as I am not loving almond milk lattes...but black coffee is very slowly growing on me!

Haven't totally decided how days 31-60 will look like & what kinds of exceptions I'm going to make for myself. My social life has suffered a little on Paleo and I've turned into a cooking hermit! (That's gotta change!)

Jenny, I finally read the "Low Carb Flu" article on whole9 this morning (since the site was down yesterday for some reason). In general my energy has been normal, it's been after big days or workouts that I've been feeling drained. Sunday I was really tired after skiing Saturday and I was starving.

The article mentions that crossfitters and athletes may benefit from some extra carbs after a glycogen depleting day and I think that that may be what I have been experiencing. Should have eaten some extra sweet potatoes or fruit I guess. I'll have to try to anticipate that more next time. I may actually be feeling it a bit today after yesterday's double dotcom day and no carbs for dinner.

There is a good nut shop on lonsdale just south of 14th. Call Ayoub's??? or something like that. They dry roast their mixes and add some lemon and salt I think as seasoning. I was going to buy a bunch of raw nuts to roast myself, but they were out of raw cashews today so opted for the roasted mix... Anyhow, if you are a stickler for trying to replace the traditional grocery store nuts that have usually soy/peanut oil in the roasting process.

Breakfast:
grapefruit and black coffee
1hr later:
left over chicken, 1 hard boiled egg, avocadoe and more black coffee

Lunch:
Big salad w chicken, apples and veggies, lemon and evoo for dressing. 1 paleo muffin for snack.

Snack:
1 paleo muffin w a few slices of turkey

Post wod/pre-run:
2 clementine

Dinner:
Left over pumpkin chicken curry on top of roasted cauliflower.
Handful of nuts and a couple of dried figs for dessert.

Geoff, I hear that a lot and read it in Paleo Solution the importance of adding carb dense bananas and sweet potatoes post wod. I think my first try at paleo I didn't enough and that's why I was experiencing so many crashes.

just got home from my first meal out while on Paleo. Hattie, Kat, & I hit up for some sushi! I think the guy at the resto was NOT impressed with my questioning every menu item!! Thanks Chris for the recommendation for Honjin! It was great!

S: paleo muffin, some cantaloupe

D: tried to stay as Paleo as possible...
1) tuna mango salad with avocado
2) tuna tataki w/spicy sauce (sauce was questionable Paleo-wise)
3) some salmon sashimi (no soy sauce)
4) a fried black cod dish that Chris recommended..very tasty!
and green tea

just nibbled on a date :)

that's a lot of fish!! maybe i'll skip on my fish oil tonight! :P

Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie for dinner and lunch tomorrow (technically cottage pie since it was beef and not mutton).

It was really good. I cooked the sweet potatoes the night before. Browned some onion before adding the ground beef. Spiced up the beef with cumin, chili powder, S&P and a touch of Worcestershire sauce. Ground beef at the bottom of a little Le Creuset, a layer of peas and then the glorious sweet potato. In the oven for 45 mins at 350F.
